I had a 6-cylinder OM in my W, and it sometimes feels like a step backwards having the 5-cylinder OM now. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great engine and the turbo which I didn't have on the OM makes it a higher-performance engine even in a lb heavier chassis. That said, I hear a lot of good about the OM too, and perhaps with a turbo it would be even more performing than the OM due to the extra cylinder.
But then again the displacement is about the same, so what's the comparison point? It's kinda a shame Mercedes never made any bigger diesels than 3. But I'm curious how the torque and horsepower and gas mileage in similar-weight vehicle compare, and whether anybody has ever put an OM into a W The OM almost seduced me but the trap oxidizer and cracked head problems spooked me. If you read different internet forums most of the SD topics are, "My AC doesn't work" or, "My window won't roll down".
Jon Quote from: jbrasile on 11 DecemberPM. The trap oxidizer is not the worst of its problems and because it is slightly more complex its operational costs are higher too.
It's a shame because it is gem of an engine It's interesting to note that the M that replaced the M is also a much smoother powerplant but it too suffers from some cronic issues that have never afflicted 's in the more than 12 years of its production run. Worn out valve guides, bad head gaskets, problematic idle, hard start issues, etc Tks, Joe.
James, You have to do the basics, full gasket set, all bearings, timing chain and guides, valve stem seals. Head should be overhauled as well. Piston rings should also be replaced. If your engine is low compression, 7. Speaking from US V8 experience I always had the rotating assembly balanced and had the connecting rods shot peened, magnafluxed and had them resized.Portal Search Calendar Help.

Hello, new on this forum, an wonder on something, want too buy a om engine,i want about hp from this engine, where du send the dieselpump? What turbo too use? Being in Europe, you have better options than we do. The is capable of that power output, put you're talking a race motor more than a street motor.
I have no idea about the durability of said motor at that power level, but considering that it's about 3x the original output, durability is going to go downhill. Mercedes could have put these engines out with serious power but they wanted durability and mileage, so that's the way they were tuned. Somewhere in the middle would be an ideal compromise.
Turbocharging N/A om606 engine?
Cost no option and without regard to reliability, you could do far worse in the diesel world, especially in the 3L and under category. You have a better starting point than most of us do with a 61X.
Get ahold of Myna in Finland and get a cost for their pump mod, pick your turbo and let us know how it goes. That involves a Myna injection pump, custom connecting rods, heavy head porting, custom exhaust header, a large turbo, a large intercooler, stronger transmission internals and various little "inside secrets" I'm sure they tell nobody about since they race their cars. OM on hp is good on street use not only race. I have on OM hp and its a daily driver. Holset Super HX40 is good for hp and spools nice on I have Master Power kompressor 65mm and turbine 69mm.
And buy a original turboengine. If engine is good shape you dont need do anything else it just bolt good pump and big turbo it. Jeemu, could this be possible on an om 3. Take hp? Running on Diesel is the only thing they really have in common.Forums New posts Search forums. Media New media New comments Search media. Russia- Land-Cruiser. Calendar New events. Log in Register. So here is what I am wondering now: I'm still planing to do a diesel FJ40 build but now I am wondering what y'all think would be the better motor.
The FJ would not be for extreme uses mostly daily driving, trips, camping with a little off roading but nothing requiring crazy amounts of torque and such but it would be nice to be able to tow a light something or other with it.
So I wan opinions but also backed stats on why you would prefer one over the other, things I have in mind would be fuel economy, ease of install 4bt needs a spring over conversion idk about the Mercedes but I would like to keep it somewhat stock looking so spring over conversion is a negative for the 4bt in my book. Anyways, I hope you have an idea of what I'm looking for so let the battle begin BDSeff1fitty FJ I'd message Luke at 4x4 labs.

I believe he does the Mercedes swap. Merk Swap Yes he does have Diesel Mercedes adapters to accommodate many transmissions and many Diesel Mercedes engines. I like both engines but if you want a more civilized engine the OM is the way to go. I did a 5 speed swap but with 3. Much less shake, much less noise and a little less weight.
Not really the same power potential though. The Mercedes-Benz OM is a 3.
It is related to the straight-4 2. The engine block itself is derived from the inline 6 cylinder M and M gasoline engines, with the Diesel crankshaft differing somewhat from the gasoline versions. In the states we use the OM I'm sure the om will gain popularity when tuners figure out the common rail aftermarket tuning.
Europe has so many options that I may have to move! But the lowest part of the sump is moved forward a good bit leaving you with plenty of space for your subframe and steering rack The om might lead you into problems with trimming the sump or front subframe to get it to clear.
If you don't like smoke, you just need to have tight control over fuelling in relation to turbo boost pressure. This is an area where an electronic injection pump EDC excels. I believe it is a Volvo wagon.
I have a DL wagon nicknamed "Grasshopper". If you use an 8mm pump you can get a remap for for that pump and turbo. I've a he and doesn't feel too laggy. Although I will be swapping to a billet wheel and 10 blade turbine wheels soon.W210 om606 0-200km/h
But lots of people love the hx But lots of people love the hx40 isnt 8mm overkill? Shorter injection duration. Diesels are easy to tune no need for injection timing or control Just fuelling based on boost.
The map i use has no smoke and spools the heve very well and revs till 6k. If your good at solderingI can send you chips and sockets to suit your turbo and pump. The ecu has two 8bit chips. You desolder these, Solder in the sockets, then you can easily remove and insert new chips to give you new maps.Portal Search Calendar Help.

I have a tradition for having myself a winter project, and circumstances have lead to this winter being a little more elaborate.
In honesty, this is the most ambitious project, I have gotten myself into yet. Done The engine is OM, auto tranny is In the planning phase, I decided to go with all original controllers. The project is as much a learning process, as it is building a unique car.
On 15th April the car starts, drives, boosts and behaves not unlike I had hoped. At this point I am facing a few minor points, I need to put the interior back in, I need to fit all trim again and I need some calm and time for road tests.
I am not home free just yet - I will keep posting progress. The car was not difficult to start after I put it all together. YES: You do need access to good facilities for machining and welding. It DOES cost money to build projects, even if you theoretically have all the parts sitting in the two cars for the project You will fuck up, and it will happen again, and it will cost you a pretty penny and a set-back. Leave it, see your friends and family, and come back to it another day. You will need a good OBD-tester.
I am blessed with access to a good one which has been essential in this build. Note: I have taken pictures of this build so far. I have selected quite a few to tell my story, but if you need additional pictures or a helping hand in a similar situation, PM me and I will do my best.Portal Search Calendar Help.

Hello, I am new to this forum but i have been active car builder for long time. At the moment i am looking for a new turbo s for my 3. I have a pair of brand new gtv turbos, but i am not sure if i get any benefit when mounting those. First of all, my powergoal is around hp, the original gtv is clearly too small and maybe good for max hp and max around 1.
Those 2 turbos i have could flow around hp of air with lambda but i am not sure about pressure ratio. As i have checked maps, gtv doesent like more than 1. They would work only with bigger displacement? Only benefit would be lower iat? Or i still can use lets say 2bar of boost with those turbos because i am not overspinning them, but then i would be out of compressor map? Maybe someone can clear this up for me regards, Allar.
I have done the homework by reading all cdi topic about those engines can you maybe give me contacts who make turbos and who makes injectors? Allar GTBvl king of torque som call itvolvo upgraded there to ?
If you get problem with space for cp3 pump from a cdi, there is with out the pre pump but it need to build then 73mm if I am not misstaken Raidaru what injectors are you speaking about? This post was last modified:AM by Turbo. Altz1 u've got PM with the contacts, I never worked with them just found them on inthernet and saw they do some great stuff. Turbo, I'm talking about the stock injectors, don't ask me the procedure to modify them cause I'm no injector specialist.
