How to Remove Demo and Trial Software from Windows PCs
This article aims to give an overall description of various strategies on time trials of software. A basic knowledge of Mac or some other unix or unix-like system is required. It is not intended to encourage somebody to repeatedly reset the trial period in purpose to use the commercial software without payment, hence no hints for concrete software are included.
Time trials allow developers to offer their software to potential customers for a short period of time generally weeks so the user can explore this software in his preferred settings own computer, calm place etc.
The trial software is sometimes combined with reduced functionality e. After the trial period expires, the application stops work e. Slidepad or the functionality is significantly reduced e.
When you download and install the software with trial time, the application software must get know, when the trial period started and wether the trial period is finished.
I leave aside the question, how the application computes the end of trial period. I assume that it simply takes current date and subtracts the start date. Yes, it may work, but please do not try it on unix unix-like system, this may lead to unexpected consequences. Moreover Macs use by default NTP Network Time Protocol daemon which synchronises the clock it is convenient for normal user — it always displays the precise time.
First of all we must say that the information about trial period must be hidden somewhere in the filesystem. The last group cannot store any information, which needs admin privileges.
From these sentences we can deduce that it the application itself, not the installer, who stores the hidden information somewhere. So we run an application from our user account without admin privileges. The application stores somewhere information that the trial period has started, so guess where it is?
For each file, you can store data in the file itself as expectedthen also in so called Resource Fork see e. The later two cases are hidden for normal user et least at its raw form, e. In this section I will describe basic procedure how to find a place where the application stores the information about the trial period.
In the text above we deduced that the hidden information is in the home directory, where it can be in particular? At first we must clarify, how to check that the trial was reset. Some applications display a big dialog window with information that this as a trial version etc. In the first run and in the consecutive runs it displays only smaller window showing how many days are left. So it is easy to see that the big window appears again. Nevertheless some applications show the same window all the time so there is no indication that you start the trial periodso the only clue is number of days left.
In such a case you have to wait one or two days, and check the number of days left. This is the most painful method, so I use it after failure of previous methods.
It is similar to usage of Instruments. Excellent article mate! Step 4 worked for me. Would be impossible to track it down without Comparison method. Thanks a lot. Thank you so much for this post. I tried Step two — simple tricks, and it worked!

Outlook com. Many of the more useful and powerful programs available for purchase offer trial periods. Instead of forcing a potential user to purchase a license immediately, developers offer a pared-down trial version or a time-limited version of the full software.
When the trial period for the program ends, often after a week or 30 days, these programs cease to function and often leave a marker in your system registry to prevent you from reinstalling the program to gain access to a second trial.
You can bypass the trial period limit by editing the Windows Registry, but this should not be attempted on a whim. Editing the Registry can be an effective way to solve problems with programs and customize your system. However, it also carries the risk of breaking a number of critical system processes and should only be attempted by experienced users. As a result, you should explore possible alternatives before attempting to use the registry to reinstall the trial version of software again.
If you need your Acrobat XI trial reset or want to renew your AutoCAD trial, it may be easier and safer to download a cracked version of either program, although you should install effective antivirus software before searching for cracked files or cracking software. If you have the means to do so, it is better to purchase the program whose trial has expired.
This minimizes the risk of system damage, exposure to viruses, malware or spyware, and supports the development of the software you're using. If this is not an option and you must attempt a Registry edit, you need to take adequate safety precautions before you proceed. Because edits to the Registry can cause major system problems when performed incorrectly, take steps before you attempt to edit it to ensure that your system can be restored to working order in the event of a mistake or problem.
The easiest way to do this is to create a system restore point. System state backups allow you to revert your computer to a previous system configuration to undo any problems caused by new applications, settings changes, or hazardous edits to the system registry.
You can create a restore point by searching for "Create a restore point" in either the Start Menu search window or the Search field of the Windows taskbar. Select the result at the top of the list. In the System Properties window that appears, select the "Create" button at the bottom of the "System Protection" tab. Proceed through the steps and allow the restore point creation process to complete before proceeding.
After you create a system restore point, you can open RegEdit by searching "regedit" in the same Search menu you used to open the System Properties window. You should not attempt to edit the Registry just yet.
Instead, create a backup copy of the current Registry state by selecting "Computer" from the left side panel, and clicking "File" and "Export. Save the backup to a secure location such as an external drive or cloud folder and then click "Save.
From the same window used to create the registry backup, you can edit the registry to bypass a program's trial period. Search for the name of the software whose trial period you want to bypass, taking note of any possible abbreviations or alternative program names. When you find the appropriate entry, select it and press the "Delete" key to remove it. Close the Registry Editor window and open a File Explorer window. Search the "Local," "Local Low" and "Roaming" folders for anything relating to the software whose trial you want to bypass and delete any related files.
Restart the computer, and you should be able to reinstall the trial software. If any problems arise, import the registry backup or roll back to the system restore point to solve them. By : Blake Flournoy December 20, Share Share on Facebook.Normally there are two types of restrictions for shareware. The amount of days given to try are normally around 30 days but it could be shorter or longer depending on the author of the software. In the earlier days, you can easily run the expired software by simply backdating the date on your Windows operating system but some software has got smarter to detect this and instantly ends the trial period.
You might think to yourself, how does the shareware knows how many days left in the trial period? Most of the time these commercial and freeware protectors drop some information somewhere deep inside your computer after installation so they know when it was installed and then comparing with the official current time pulled from the Internet. It is possible to find the location that records that information by using file or registry monitoring software including third party uninstaller software such as Revo Uninstaller but it can be tedious and frustrating work.
NirSoft RunAsDate. As the name might suggest, RunAsDate performs a trick on the trial software that has expired by injecting the time and date you specify into its process. This has a similar effect to manually setting your system clock to a different time and date, but in this instance your real clock remains unchanged.
RunAsDate can also have multiple instances of its program running at once, and each one can have a separate date, all different to the real one. Now simply press the Run button. In fact if you know the registry location of where the trial information are recorded for a shareware program, you can create your own text file and save it in the Lists folder. Do note that Trial-Reset does not modify the shareware in anyway.
It simply cleans the registry keys generated by the protectors which are normally not removed even after uninstalling the software. This is how a lot of shareware knows you have no trial period left, even if you uninstall and re-install the program again. Trial-Reset is very easy to use. To start scanning, simply click on the All located at the bottom left.
The scanning will take a while since some of the methods require scanning the hard drive. The right pane will show all the detected keys that are used by any shareware titles. You can backup, view or delete the keys, add to protect or auto cleaning list from the right click context menu. If you have a lot of shareware installed, there will be quite a number of results and you will need to do a trial and error to find the key that is associated with the software that you want to reset the trial period.

If others want to pay for or use Winzip, they are perfectly entitled to do so. Thank a billion! It perfectly works for most of my trial software. 5 Ways to Extend Trial Periods of Shareware Software
Any body know how to reset trail date key I look at the ResEdit only show date I try to download again yesterday I want to know where is date it compair so I can change that date Have to be 30 day Less than current date I greatly appreciated if some can tell me where in registry I can change.
Any help would be great thank you.One of the most common models of software sales these days is the use of the free trial. There are two basic approaches to this: either offer basic features only, or release the full program with a time limit that only allows the use of the trial for a fixed period of time.
It is this second type of trial that we are addressing today. Time-limited trials are much more effective at generating sales than are crippleware offerings. Imposing a fixed time limit of 7, 14 or 30 days and letting customers experience the full program is more popular. This gives users the full experience of the software soo they can make a much more informed buying decision.
In this article, I will show you several techniques for reinstalling trial software after the trial has ended. Note that the intention of this article is not to allow you to continue using the software indefinitely; that would be unethical. Use these techniques only to evaluate software, not to steal it. There are a number of different techniques that will allow you to reinstall software.
Some application time trials run on the honor system — if you reinstall the program, the trial will run again. However, it is far more common for applications to attempt to detect and block cheating behaviors.Infinite Free Trial Period on Most Mac Software
Some leave a file or file or marker in the registry or in Program Data Windows telling the software how long it has to live. Other programs will track the date internally or use more sophisticated methods of enforcing trial periods. Below are just some of the ways you can reinstall trial software after the free trial has ended. Not all methods will work in all circumstances, as different developers use varying methods to track trials.
You will have to experiment with each to find what works for you. An installation monitor is a piece of software that exactly records every action taken by a setup or install program — every file transferred, ever registry entry changed or created, every checkpoint created and every icon installed.
By using an installation monitor when you install a free trial, you can get an exact catalog of what it installs.
Ordinary uninstall programs, provided by the software manufacturer, leave traces all over your computer, whether through sloppiness or design. Mirekusoft Install Monitor is one install monitor that you can use to perform this function.
It has the advantage of being free, and it tracks everything a program installs and the locations where the files are installed. You can then forensically uninstall or delete every file once you uninstall the trial, which should allow you to reinstall trial software after the free trial has ended.
The uninstaller that comes with your software is usually pretty sloppy. Nobody normally needs an uninstaller to get every last file, and nobody ever made a software purchase on the basis of how well its uninstall program worked.
So predictably, uninstallers will often miss or ignore entries in the registry and on your hard drive. Using a third party uninstaller such as Revo Uninstaller or IObit Uninstaller removes every file from everywhere. If the trial program leaves a certificate file or other resource to prevent reinstallation, these apps should find and delete it.
The Windows registry is an enormous database of stored values describing just about every aspect of every piece of software and hardware on your machine. Many programs will leave traces of themselves in the registry, even if you use the included uninstaller.
Even a file uninstaller might not get every registry entry, particularly if the setup and uninstall programs were designed to leave a registry entry hidden somewhere to prevent double-runs of the trial software.
However, this is relatively easy to defeat. All you have to do is take a snapshot of your Windows Registry before you install the trial for the first time. Then install and use the trial, and when the time period runs out, uninstall it, then restore the Registry to the saved values it had before the trial.
However, note that this has the potential of getting your PC into a confused state, as any other changes that other programs have logged to the Registry in the meantime will also be lost.Joinsubscribers and get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles.
